6 July 2023 - Light Painting Under the Stars

This stargazing workshop is by far the largest and one of the most memorable I have ever hosted.

A whole mix of people coming together - travelling families, young kids, amateur astronomers and photographers. It was so cool seeing everyone get excited about the night sky.

The astrophotographers amongst us seized this opportunity to create fantastic images. The Milky Way arched beautifully above us, its stars creating an ethereal path in the night sky. It was not just a visual spectacle but a symbol of our place in the universe. The cameras clicked away, preserving this beauty for posterity, with each shot echoing a star's silent serenade.

The younger crowd brought a different type of fun. They got super creative and started light painting under the tail of the Milky Way. It was amazing to see their imagination run wild, waving lights around, and creating some mind-blowing images. That's the thing about stargazing, there's no age limit, and everyone can get involved in their own way.

Speaking of young minds, there was this kid, August, who was just so curious and full of interesting ideas. He had this theory about why Venus was crescent-shaped and I gotta tell you, it was quite impressive. As someone who loves teaching, it's moments like these that really remind me why I do this. Seeing young folks trying to figure things out and being bold enough to voice their theories is just amazing!
