9 July 2023 - Threads of Connection

There is an inexplicable magic to observing the night sky, a timeless activity that connects us not only to each other, but to the many generations before us who stood under the same canopy of stars.

It reminds me of a time 2400 years ago, when the stargazing event served as a great meeting place for the minds of ancient Greece. Those stargazers of antiquity were made of all sorts of people, from humble peasants to visionary thinkers, from bustling merchants to influential politicians, stargazing was the universal passion that united all strata of ancient Greek society. It was a time when we first began to understand that the stars in the sky were other suns with other worlds. Many people experience a stirring sense of wonder when they first confront this simple truth, and you can imagine those ancient people’s eyes wide open they first discovered it. Despite our digital age, we found ourselves tapping into that same universal joy and wonder.

For me, the stargazing experience not only about understanding the universe, but also about the sheer joy of exploration and companionship.

Here's to the stars, to curiosity, and to the shared joy of exploration that unites us across the ages. Under the same stars that guided our ancestors, we continue the eternal dialogue about our place in this wondrous universe.
