Devil's Marbles and the Milky Way

This image captures the milky way rising above the Devil's Marbles in central Australia. These gigantic boulders are an internationally recognised symbol of Australia's outback and are spectacularly shaped by geological processes.

It's hard to contemplate the incredible time it took to form the incredible landscape; 1700 million years of molten magma cooling, shrinking, and weathering. It took even longer for the interstellar dust in the Milky Way to concentrate and form a planet like the Earth.

But for a brief moment, in this vast cosmos, on a small planet, there were thinking being witnessing and appreciating nature's great beauty.
