NGC 6726 & IC 4812 R Coronae Australis

In the southern night sky lies an astronomical icon - a horseshoe-shaped pattern of brighter stars hanging in the night sky like a jewellery neckless (The Southern Crown). Among them is a small region called R Coronae Australis, where many ghostly nebulas emerge and vanish rhythmically. This image shows a small portion of that region.

The bright blue areas are reflection nebulas - a few bright stars caught up in large dusty clouds and illuminated their surroundings. The one on the left is IC 4812, and the one on the right is NGC 6726, NGC 6727 and NGC 6729. The boomerang-shaped dark dust lane in the middle is part of the dark nebula Bernes 157.
