Mosaic of ETA Carina, Statue of Liberty Nebula and Running Chicken Nebula

Deep in the southern Milky Way lies one of the most spectacular regions of the sky - the constellation Carina. It is packed with interesting objects: emission nebulas, star clusters, and Bok globules… This mosaic image captures some of the gorgeous objects in this small patch of sky.

The Carina Nebula (NGC 3372) in the upper part is one of the finest nebulas in the sky for hobbyists and amateur astronomers. It is so big and bright that it can be viewed through binoculars.

The small nebulas at the centre are called NGC 3603 and NGC 3576 (the Statue of Liberty Nebula), bright emission nebulas in the Sagittarius arm of the galaxy, a few thousand light-years away from Earth.

At the bottom is the Running Chicken Nebula (IC 2948). In the centre of this object are several Bok globules, which are huge chunks of thick dust clouds floating in space where new stars are being born. The question is, can you see the Chicken here?
